Stephen Pearson - Vice-Chair, Libertarian Party of Washington County

I have been involved with the Libertarian Party of Washington County (LPWC) and the state Libertarian Party for almost five years. In that time I have been Chair of LPWC for one year and am just starting my third term as Vice-Chair. I have been active at the state level as member or the State Committee and member of several subcommittees including the Audit Committee.

I believe in the Libertarian party ideals of freedom from government interference, and reliance on personal responsibility and think that government is far too intrusive in people’s lives. Over the course of my life, I have gravitated from being a democrat, then a republican, then an independent for many years. Finally, I decided that if I was going to complain about what politicians did, I should get involved with the process and try to make it better. I believe the Libertarians are trying to do just that.

My home has been the Portland metro area since 1979 and I have seen many changes at the local and state level-many of them dysfunctional and unnecessary. I want the Libertarian party to grow its voice and membership so that our message is heard and considered along with those of the major parties.

Besides my efforts with the LPWC, I am an elected representative on the Local School Committee for Cedar Park Middle School, am on the Budget committee for Tualatin Valley Water District, and am a volunteer tour guide for the Portland Classic Chinese Garden.
